In low fantasy or magical realism, however, magic is subtly woven into an otherwise familiar, real-world setting. I fail to understand how The Da Vinci Code and Hunger Games belong on the same list as The Lord of the Rings, Little Women, Hamlet, and Tale of Two Cities. I will definitely be reading a few of these books each year to see how many I can fill in, but the list isn’t perfect. Having this list gives me a great way to track my progress and, like the books on my shelves, it’s a great conversation piece. By not marking them, it gives me the motivation to go back and revisit them.
There were a few that I read in high school like, Tom Sawyer, Romeo and Juliet, and The Sun Also Rises that I didn’t mark off because it’s been so long I could barely remember them. I am certainly not the world’s most well-read person, but I was surprised at how many I’d already read.

The poster comes with a pair of magnetic clips so you can hang it on your wall and easily pull it down to scratch of books as you read them. That’s why I love progress bars when writing, word count trackers, and even fitness apps. The poster shows a grid of 100 book covers, coated with a golden layer of scratch-off material so you can mark each book as it’s read. They make these posters in all sorts of other flavors as a way for you to track what places you’ve visited, movies you’ve watched, and things like that. It’s made by a company called Been There Done That. With so many books to choose from, sometimes it can be daunting which to choose next.įor Christmas this year I received a little nudge in this area: the “100 Epic Reads of a Lifetime” poster. Each year my “To Be Read” list gets longer and longer. I’ve read many wonderful books over the years, but there are so many more I’ve yet to read.
